Kerala Vision is India’s sixth-largest FTTH provider, connecting homes and businesses with high-speed internet. They’ve achieved incredible success, but as their customer base grows, so does the need for smoother digital experiences. As a loyal Kerala Vision customer, I’ve relied on their fiber internet connection for years. But like many others, I found their mobile app—though recently improved—still struggling with usability and aesthetic coherence.
One late night, when my internet mysteriously stopped working, I had to call customer support to reset my router’s MAC address. This wasn’t the first time. It’s a standard troubleshooting step, but when my local operator wasn’t available, I was stuck waiting on hold with the central customer care team. That’s when it hit me: what if the app could let me reset my MAC address on my own?
This small pain point planted the seed for my redesign project. I envisioned a new Kerala Vision app—one that wasn’t just functional but intuitive and enjoyable to use.
The first thing I noticed in the existing app was its overwhelming color scheme. While the red and blue from their logo were bold and eye-catching, they dominated the interface to the point of discomfort—like staring at a flashing police siren. I decided to dial things down and create a more harmonious experience. Drawing inspiration from their brand palette, I introduced a calming green as the primary color, evoking Kerala’s lush greenery, and paired it with a refined indigo for accents. To maintain a cohesive and pleasant aesthetic, I used a darkened indigo for text, ensuring readability while tying the design together.
The current app’s navigation was functional but cluttered. Tabs like “Recharge” and “Plan” contained overlapping information, while the “Transactions” tab duplicated notifications about recharges. To simplify things, I consolidated the “Recharge” and “Plan” tabs into one and moved the transaction history into a subpage under “Recharge.” Notifications, which were oddly tucked away, were given a proper place in the bottom navigation bar.
Speaking of notifications, I swapped the email-like envelope icon for a universally recognized bell icon. Small changes like these might seem trivial, but they add up to create a more intuitive user experience.
The logout button sitting awkwardly at the top of the home page was one of the first things I moved. Logging out is not a frequent action, especially in a consumer-grade app, so it now resides quietly at the bottom of the “Account” page. This shift also freed up valuable space for more relevant features.
The redesigned home page focuses on what users care about most: data usage, plan details, and quick access to offers. A slider highlights promotions, while clean, visually distinct cards display data usage stats, plan validity, and even a weekly usage graph—a quick glimpse into internet habits.
Recharging has never been easier. Plans are categorized and displayed with clear, concise details. The page begins with the user’s current plan for quick recharges, followed by a slider of recommended plans based on past usage. Filter options at the top make it simple to find exactly what you need.
Understanding data usage shouldn’t feel like decoding hieroglyphs. I introduced a new graph style that’s visually engaging and easy to interpret. While monthly data summaries didn’t fit well within the app’s real estate, users can scroll through weekly breakdowns or export the data as a PDF or CSV for deeper analysis.
Notifications are now neatly categorized by month, with icons indicating their context. Some alerts even have actionable buttons, streamlining tasks like recharges or plan changes.
Here’s where things get exciting. Not only does this page house the relocated logout button, but it also introduces a game-changing feature: the ability to view and reset your router’s MAC address directly within the app. No more waiting on hold during late-night outages!
This redesign is more than just a facelift; it’s a user-centric reimagining of how Kerala Vision’s app could serve its customers better. From simplifying navigation to introducing thoughtful features like MAC address resets, every change was driven by real-world frustrations and a desire to create a delightful digital experience.
Kerala Vision has already proven its mettle as a leading FTTH provider. With a little more love and attention to their app, they can set a new standard for customer engagement in the ISP industry.
As a customer and a designer, I’m proud to share this vision for a smarter, friendlier Kerala Vision app.
